DEATH CLOCK
65
By: Wayne Brown
The old clock on the mantle ticks in the silence of night
Storm clouds gather to rage and light the dark night bright
With lightning and thunder; torrents of cold stinging rain
A perfect night for Evil to shake and rattle its chains
What’s that at the front window, an eerie shadow there passes
The wind goes around the house and rattles the window glasses
Fear in my heart is climbing in my throat, there’s danger about
Even with all this stormy noise, the old clock still ticks on loud
Each tick of the clock brings danger near, I feel it in my skin
Evil lurks just out on my porch, soon it will try to come in
And the clock it just ticks marking the passage in increment
Time’s running short and soon I fear the horror of Evil’s intent
The hail on the tin roof is playing a tune, adding more confusion
With all that is going on how will I ever know of an intrusion
But the clock marks time and the hour surely will approach
Evil springs, my heart will stop and screams choke my throat
Evil will come this thunderous night and at my door knob scratch
While I sit frozen in my chair, it will slowly lift up the latch
And as the clock ticks away marking time on the old mantel shelf
Evil will consume my being and suck all the life from my self
Oh God, please stop that clock from ticking, help me with my fear
Evil things are lurking outside and the time is drawing ever near
My heart will not stand to live with this fear though the stormy night
Please God, stop that clock, these ghastly fears I can no longer fight
The lightning is blazing; the thunder rumbles and the wind does race
I run to the mantel; grab the clock and rip the hands from its face
But still the ticking, the hideous ticking, it continues ever so loud
Though time has no mark it continues on unmasking Evil’s shroud
Fear has paralyzed my limbs, I cannot move; frozen in my chair
Now Evil lifts up the latch and slowly enters my dark lair
I see its hideous face and it makes my blood run oh so cold
I know it is here to stop the tick of time and carry away my soul.

That clock is just horrible! And the poem is completely creepy with the fear flashing and time passing with a heartbeat - very scary stuff!
Maybe it ticked 10:10"10 on 10/10/10. It happens twice today.
Keep on hubbing!
Wayne,
Your verse brought back memories of an old Twilight Zone episode where Ed Wynn kept his Grandfather clock running because he feared he would die if it stopped!!!!!!!!!
This is Scarrrrrry!
Well throw out that spooky ass clock anyway and mebbe the nightmares will end. Where in the hell did ya get that thing? It is pretty cool though, I like it. Spooky poem WB just in time for Halloween.
Yes the clock is ticking for each of us and someday it will stop, ready or not. Cheers.
From me, I could not keep from thinking that David from Psalms relating to this kind of fear.
HeHeHeHe
The pendelum clock that my parents gave me stopped on my dad's birthday, the first one following his death. I much prefer a ticking clock, although this was one scary, ticking clock! My brother, a scientist and head chair in microbiology at UC, Davis, cannot and will not sleep, in a room with a ticking clock. Since he is not a superstitious person, I believe in the magic. Very heart pounding stuff for the season of the witch!
I'll get you Wayne Brown for that glove slap, just wait and see if I don't. :D
I remember being awoken at times in the middle of a nightmare to hear our grandfather clock in our hallway ticking and gonging on the hour. It was very spooky indeed.
Wayne you are priming yourself up for fright night and challenge. I read Poe squeezing between your verse, well done my friend. Keep them coming and turn off your clocks or fear the haunting.
I have always tried to stay away from the dark side of things and situations, but you and the other talented contestants are taking me into the thrilling side of it all, so I guess I will follow you guys and see what are you going to come up next.
Petra you have a wonderful mind. You should have no trouble soiling it for awhile and dig deep into the dark side to come up with a scary hub for the challenge.
Remember we are all different writers and have our own individual voice and styles, so give it a try, Wayne and I and others look so much forward to your read. Keep in mind you come from Romania and vampire legacy, so give it a go gurl:0))
If it gets too dark ,turn on one of those fancy lights that does not "burn" much electricity... (LED).
What a great, scary poem to usher in the Halloween season. I loved the suspense.
Well done! I loved it
