GYPSY COWBOY
61
By: Wayne Brown
What’s over that next hill, down in that valley there?
Is the ocean really blue or green and do I really care?
There sure is a lot of this world out there to see
Do I really want to do it or is it just that gypsy in me?
They say the Canadian Rockies are a snow-covered sight
Others claim the Northern Lights cannot be beat at night
Then there’s the desert sands, too vast for eyes to see
Do I really need to go there or is it just the gypsy in me?
The women of Spain are said to have the most beautiful hands
The grapes of California are among the finest grown by man
The world is such a wondrous place from sea to shining sea
Do I really want to see it all or is it just that gypsy in me?
Are the pastures really and truly greener on the other side?
Are there places I can heal and hide my foolish pride?
The world is an awesome place so big, wild, and free
Do I want to experience it all, or is that gypsy calling me?
They say that books and imagination can take you anywhere
They say that one can visualize all the places far and near
The mind and books are awesome things there for you and me
Do I really want to go there, or is it just the gypsy in me?
Oh the wanderlust mind and the beauty of worldly places
Cause my mind to wonder and search for distance spaces
My curiosity longs for some new, exciting places to be
Should I shrug it off as just the calling of the gypsy in me?
A gypsy wanderer never finds roots in any given spot
They spend their life on the roam and foregoing all I’ve got
Yet there is a spot in my heart that knows they are truly free
Should I answer the call or is it just the wandering gypsy in me?
Sitting by this campfire with my horse standing near
There’s awe and beauty all around me in spaces here
I’ll leave the world to others and a cowboy I will be
Happy with all I have and tip my hat to the gypsy in me

These days it's 18 wheels and a load that has to make it to Denver by daylight Thursday that keeps the wanderlust going.
I hated it as often as I loved it...and I still miss pointing the hood toward the horizon and putting the pedal down.
Oh, I still like my horses, but I cramp and walk bow-legged a lot quicker these days.
This captured the appeal of the open range and the open road Wayne.

Wonderful hub! I agree that books and imagination can take you anywhere. Gypsy and Cowboy . . . some of each in the other. Thanks for sharing!!
Wayne, this is a strong thought-provoking poem! Do we really realize that we host a wondering spirit in us? One that may lead us where we don’t really want to be? Just because it is the most curious and courageous being? I really like this one. It spoke to me. Take care, tot weersiens.
This is a wonderful piece WB! As MartieCoetser said, it is thought-provoking. I love your comparison to a Gypsy, after all Cowboys have always roamed, haven't they! :)
If it weren't for TSA agents radiating and groping I would be a gypsy! Voted up and awesome.
Seems like my inner gypsy is not as strong as when I was younger and healthier.
This was great! Cowboys I guess could be the american version of a gypsy. I love anything about gypsies, as I tend to live like one...a roaming free spirit, always have been, its in my blood. This was absolutely wonderful and your imagery was also fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
Wayne there is that gypsy fever in most of us, unfortunately due to restraints, family life, jobs and other important tasks we can't unleash the gypsy wander lust in our souls. It's nice to dream and like you sang in your poem, books, movies and daydreaming helps bring out the gypsy lifestyle.
The cowboy certainly had it cornered with his wanderings on cattle drives and went from place to place like a nomad or gypsy. It's a wonderful feeling to just hit the road and go out exploring.
I am thankful I drove over the road for almost 10 years in your country and mine for I got to see so much and I must say our countries are beautiful, the majesty of our mountains, lakes, rivers, forest and ocean blows the mind for sure. Thanks for this share, enjoyed it very much.
I loved this piece WayneBrown, I loved the magic of the gypsy life mingled with the way I would always imagine a Cowboy to be! I was a gypsy for many years in my younger life, and that freedom and that exploring was nothing I had ever experienced before, and it is wonderful to go back into my mind and remember those travels. To always have them planted in my memory.
Thank you for the beauty of your prose!
Blessings and hugs!

Captures the wanderlust in the true mavericks of the world. You roped the "cowboy" ambiance with these words, Wayne. Rawhide!!!!
