LONE STAR RANGERS
61
By: Wayne Brown
Since 1823, we’ve worn the badge and Texas trails we’ve ridden
Ride a horse, track a man, and fight and shoot; we ain’t a-kiddin’
We’ll take on any assignment and we’ll ride straight to the dangers
We are one of a kind; they call us ‘Texas Rangers
We fought Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Indians cross Texas plain
Went to war on the Rio Grande; put those Mexicans there in chains
We can track down any man, anywhere and face down bad strangers
We do what it is that we do best; they call us ‘Texas Rangers’
When ol’ Sam Bass was out robbin’ trains, they called us in by name
Said we had to shut Bass down and stop his deadly game
We tracked him down to Round Rock, him and all his gangsters
His shots missed, ours were true; don’t mess with ‘Texas Rangers’
John Wesley Hardin was a dreaded gunman; killed some forty men
The Rangers were sent out to corral him and bring back in again
We caught ol’ Hardin on a train before he could load his chambers
When you need it done and done right, send the ‘Texas Rangers’
We know these plains like the back of our hands, every single mile
We’ll go about our work with a focus but an easy sort of style
Not deterred by the elements, the gunfire, or the dangers
We can stand and face it all; we are the ‘Texas Rangers’
We don’t boast of our accomplishments; there ain’t no brag just fact
Goin’ after a man, sittin’ up or over the saddle; he’s comin’ back
We are the ready and just awaiting the call to face all dangers
When you need help, just send the best; send the ‘Texas Rangers’

Hi Wayne. I really love your old west stuff. You really capture the mood and feeling of the old west. Also, the old western music is comforting and soothing. Thanks for another good hub. (:v
the Texas Rangers are awesome! that was Boomhauer's secret, revealed on the last episode of King of the Hill, which was pretty cool. i was born in Texas and will always consider myself a Texas girl. yippee-ki-yay...
That's a tough looking bunch! Criminals with badges - hmm. I guess they'd have to be considering what and who they were up against at times. Gee, I love this stuff - it's like watching a western :)
Wonderful! I enjoyed your hub tremendously.
Nice hub! I really like the picture at the top of your hub.
I love your poems. I think sometimes I would have felt very much at home living in the old West. I have no idea why!
This was such an enjoyable read!
I heard the strangest sounds in modern times
Of horses rapidly running in a cloud of dust
Gunfire boasting a worldwide triumph over crime
Salute the Texas Rangers in Wayne Brown’s poem!
I think a lot of folks think of 'rangers' as criminals with badges but then again, sometimes it takes this kind of person to 'run out the bad elements'. Well written as always and loved the videos!
Thank goodness the Wild West had these Texas Rangers to round up the bad guys and keep them out. The badge was a symbol that many respected and others just plum wanted to shoot it off their chests. I know if I had lived back then I would have been a Texas Ranger. I would have practiced my gun handling on these bad dudes fer sure.
Real people, with real stories. Perhaps why I enjoy Country Western music..! Thanks for sharing.

Pretty fast bunch of cowpokes! Looks like some folks I knew in the mountains a few years back. But these guys dress better. There were some great TV shows and movies about these guys. Great poetry Sir!
